Introduction

Research Objectives

MALDI4Health, is a project funded by the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (H.F.R.I.) under the “2nd Call for H.F.R.I. Research Projects to support Faculty Members & Researchers” (Project Number: 03980). Through the collaboration of two laboratories of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the project will aim at applying polymer science as a tool for the development of high- throughput and sensitive analytical platforms for the multi- class detection of biologically relevant low-molecular-weight compounds (LMWCs) in complex samples using MALDI instrumentation.

Collaborative Excellence at NKUA

The MALDI4Health project thrives on the synergy between two esteemed laboratories at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Each lab brings unique expertise and innovative approaches to the table, ensuring the project's success in developing cutting-edge analytical solutions. Together, they are setting new standards in scientific research and application.

Equipment

The MALDI4Health project leverages the advanced capabilities of the timsTOF flex mass spectrometer, a state-of-the-art platform that combines high-resolution MALDI imaging with trapped ion mobility spectrometry (TIMS). This powerful instrumentation enables high-throughput, spatially resolved analysis of low molecular weight compounds with exceptional sensitivity, selectivity, and molecular detail—crucial for unraveling complex biological and environmental systems.
